…this project is all but dead. I lost the muse for it. Now, all 60 pages sit on my hard drive, gathering dust. I almost tried to re-write it for NaNoWriMo this year, but then I decided “fuck NaNo I don’t feel like it” and did my own thing (read: nothing).
I’ll keep everything here in case I ever pick it back up, but it likely won’t be any time soon.

Chapter 8
And here we are, chapter 8. Go check the last chapter, because I added some things to it that were originally going to be in this chapter. I actually sort of like this chapter. We take a sidequest with the more secondary characters.
Edit: I totally accidentally uploaded this as chapter 9. I FEEL SMART.
The impossibly large hands unfolded from the shadowy cloak and reached out to me, but did not...
Chapter 7
This is arguably the most important chapter in the entire book. We get to see what Neesha’s up to, and for the first time since chapter 4, we go back to the world of the Missing! And we finally meet the mysterious Mr. Ichabod…
Next chapter, we see what Jack’s up to.
EDIT (12:43 PM Nov 22 ‘09): I added a lot to the end of this chapter, and I also messed with Chapter 1, so...

Chapter 6
AND NOW WE START INTO WIL’S POINT OF VIEW. Watch her be weird. Also, I love Silas. He’s hilarious. Total word count: 22,157
I later discovered that his name was Heston, and he was rather fond of the tug-of-war game. He took hold of some loose lace on my dress and gave it a tug, slobbering happily all over me. I saw it as an attack and immediately gave a surprising sort of battle cry...
Chapter 5
This is the last chapter of Act 1. I know, you didn’t realize there were acts, right? Well, there are, and Act 2 opens in Wil’s point of view. She turned out funnier than I thought.
Before reading, remember that this is a completely unedited version of The Din—please be gentle. Total word count: 19,151
The carriage was too blue. It was the first thing she noticed. The Brimbury...
Chapter 4
Chapter 4 - I cannot remember what happens in this chapter enough to make any sort of intelligent commentary.
Total word count: 14,156
Jack did, in fact, hurl as they stepped into the shadow world, shaking. He was a cautious boy. This all just didn’t sit right with him. Something was very wrong.
Wil didn’t seem to notice, instead happily taking Neesha’s hand and walking along. She looked...

Chapter 3
The third installment. Total word count for first 3 chapters: 10,775
They worked their way into the kitchen with relative stealth. Wil’s quick thinking gave them an apt excuse to be gone for a while, so they needn’t worry about that this time.
“Here, this way!” Wil barged into the basement, her giddiness building. It was strange to Eliza, who was used to the whining, weird way Wil was, to see her...

Chapter 2
Again, rough draft. Please be gentle. You can attack it in December.
Total word count: 7,015
“W-What are you?” Wil half-shouted, half-whispered, both terrified someone would hear and excited that her years of searching had finally, finally yielded a result.
The shadows shifted around and the larger one made itself more prominent. “Hello, Wil.”
She stepped back, trying to steady her breath. This...

Chapter 1
Disclaimer: This is completely unedited, the rough draft, and sort of horridly written. Please bear with me.
Total word count: 2,931
Nothing ever happened in the Wilkes Manse. Day in, day out, everything went the same way:
Wake up.
Dress.
Cease breathing.
Eat. Eat very little.
Chat politely with Elizabelle for a moment.
Go to knitting class.
Knit (always very riveting, you know).
Talk to Jack on...

NaNoWriMo
This year, C.A. Gregory plans to participate in National Novel Writing Month. She aims to finish (or at least get close to finishing) The Din during November. This ought to get interesting.
The novel will be posted in parts here.
