The Din

A novel by C.A. Gregory.

…this project is all but dead. I lost the muse for it. Now, all 60 pages sit on my hard drive, gathering dust. I almost tried to re-write it for NaNoWriMo this year, but then I decided “fuck NaNo I don’t feel like it” and did my own thing (read: nothing).

I’ll keep everything here in case I ever pick it back up, but it likely won’t be any time soon.

Man, it has been ages since I last updated this thing. This story has been moved to the back burner, and will probably be entirely re-written once I can find inspiration for it again.

But, oh, I do so love to draw the characters.

This is Crane (formerly Mr. Ichabod, formerly Mr. Shadow). There are four versions of this total, but these are the best two. The Missing like to go armless now and again, hence the first one. The other two versions are inaccurate because of the way I drew his hands - they had lines. The Missing are meant to look otherworldly, and the only way to really express that in my style is to go without lines.

SO YEAH. Here he is. The big baddie. Yup.

Chapter 8

And here we are, chapter 8. Go check the last chapter, because I added some things to it that were originally going to be in this chapter. I actually sort of like this chapter. We take a sidequest with the more secondary characters.

Edit: I totally accidentally uploaded this as chapter 9. I FEEL SMART.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

As mentioned in the last post, The Din is a novel based largely on songs by the band ‘The Ditty Bops,’ and the title, as well as the basis of the novel itself, is pulled from a line from the chorus of this song, “Growing Upside Down.”

The line itself: “I can hear you whispering/beneath the din/it reels me in”

Thought I’d share.

This is Wil, for one version of the cover. Neesha would be on the other side, looking devious, of course.
For those that don’t know, the title of this novel and the main inspiration was a line from a song by the Ditty Bops. I’ll post that, next.

I thought you all might like to see some Neesha drawings, the originals, from which she hasn’t really changed—oh wait. No one reads this. Har.

Chapter 7

This is arguably the most important chapter in the entire book. We get to see what Neesha’s up to, and for the first time since chapter 4, we go back to the world of the Missing! And we finally meet the mysterious Mr. Ichabod…

Next chapter, we see what Jack’s up to.

EDIT (12:43 PM Nov 22 ‘09): I added a lot to the end of this chapter, and I also messed with Chapter 1, so all the word counts posted here are off. Oh well.

AND NOW WE START INTO WIL’S POINT OF VIEW. Watch her be weird. Also, I love Silas. He’s hilarious. Total word count: 22,157

Chapter 5

This is the last chapter of Act 1. I know, you didn’t realize there were acts, right? Well, there are, and Act 2 opens in Wil’s point of view. She turned out funnier than I thought.
